The movie CONCLAVE seems promising, a thriller about the selection of the next pope. While I do not believe that the Roman Catholic Church is in any way perfect or the true church of Jesus, I think this movie is fascinating for a few different reasons.
One of the best reasons is that it shows that even in a place where every single man has spent decades of his life, the thirst for power is universal, despite their motives of walking in humility and consecration.
The second reason is that it gives an inside look into an otherwise very secretive process, helping theology students understand more about the inner workings of the Roman Catholic Church.
Finally, another reason to watch this movie is to gain a better understanding of discerning the truth and not relying on the argument from authority, but rather trusting scripture and not just people who claim to be God’s representatives.
About The Movie: The pope is dead. The throne is vacant. CONCLAVE is only in theaters this October 25, starring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Isabella Rossellini. Watch the trailer now.
From director Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front), CONCLAVE follows one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events – selecting the new Pope. Once the Catholic Church’s most powerful leaders have gathered from around the world and are locked together in the Vatican halls, Lawrence uncovers a trail of deep secrets left in the dead Pope’s wake, secrets which could shake the foundations of the Church.
